A Brief Look at the History of Virtual Reality

Apple Vision Pro is currently the focus of interest. All media and bloggers are trying to highlight some of the features of the Apple Vision Pro virtual reality headset. However, before the enthusiasm of users and media began, many individuals were focused on the development of virtual reality technology, which will be briefly reviewed in this article.

Apple Vision Pro; A View through the Lens of Technology

Apple Vision Pro integrates your digital content with your physical world, which is why many technophiles consider it the most compelling tech gadget. Even Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, who captured everyone’s attention with the introduction of ChatGPT last year, holds a similar view. Mr. Altman views this headset to be the second most appealing computer gadget since the iPhone’s release.

High-quality displays, robust hardware, eye-tracking technologies, hand gestures, facial recognition (known as Persona), and other features make Vision Pro appear magical. Users of Vision Pro are presented with a powerful computer that can immerse them in the gadget in a genuinely fascinating manner.

However, each critic of this headset found several costly shortcomings. The heaviness, short-term battery life, relatively limited exclusive software, and limited apps are all typical virtual reality issues that have affected this device as well.

Flashback to the Early Days of Virtual Reality!

If we look back at history, 1991 has a lot to tell! A TV program on ABC recently made headlines for offering a virtual reality headset. However, the first virtual reality headsets were created in the 1970s.

They were room-sized and unsuitable for personal or commercial use. The first commercial headset of this type was released in the early 1990s, 33 years before Apple’s Vision Pro. The appearance of this headset on television was amazing. People felt as if they were watching a technological future, like sci-fi films.

This headset, specifically called Virtuality in the 1000, 2000, and 3000 model series, hit the market. During that time, Sega in 1993 and Nintendo in 1995 released similar commercial VR headsets that were not very successful. Now, in the age of unquestionable technology, everyone, from Apple to Sony and Meta, is keeping an eye on this field, which will most likely rule an important part of our future!
